Our people

The Nightwatch management team brings together expertise from the private and public sectors. The team of seven is drawn from the community and is balanced as to gender and ethnic origin. It includes people working in industry, in local and in national government. Read more about our volunteers here.

Chair: Jad Adams

Jad Adams has worked as a volunteer for Nightwatch since 1979 and has been chair of the organisation since 1992. He has worked in the newspaper and television industries; he is now a professional writer. For eight years he was a councillor in a neighbouring authority, holding a number of senior positions including Chair of Finance. He is director of a residential management company, K & P G Ltd.

Treasurer: Adam Powell

Adam Powell taught maths in secondary schools for nine years. He now works as a carer and is an assistant accountant.

Secretary: Dr Bob Sleight

Dr Bob Sleight had a wide-ranging business career in petrochemicals with a major oil company. He has had long term exposure to and training in accounting and finance. Since retiring he works on a voluntary basis as a CAB Adviser and is Chair of Croydon Association for Young Single Homeless.

Premises Officer: Roger Davies

Roger Davies is a retired mechanical engineer who previously specialised in design, project management and quality control. Currently he is involved in charity work and is chair of Chaldon Parish Council. He takes responsibility for the logistics of our premises.

External liaison and advocacy: Tony Sewell

Tony Sewell worked as a data quality analyst for electricity company SEEBOARD PLC, now known as EDF Energy. He was responsible for analysing and monitoring billing performance for the 1.2 million metering systems in their distribution area. He left SEEBOARD to set up his own food manufacturing business and gave up working there full time to become a professional project and advocacy worker for vulnerable homeless people.

Volunteer Co-ordinator: Amanda Shortland

Amanda Shortland worked in the Pharmaceutical sector for 15 years as a clinical research scientist before leaving to start her family.  She now works with primary school-aged children with special educational needs.

Committee Member: Nana Acquah

Nana Acquah is a civil servant. She has worked in policy with government ministers on immigration, crime and disorder issues. She holds a master's degree in public policy and a postgraduate diploma in Law.
